Generally, Robert takes the time to answer questions and make suggestions during initial consultations.  Therefore, this meeting can be very valuable even if you determine that you are not ready to engage a professional yet.

It is possible that you are being well served already; accordingly, Robert may just confirm that you are in a good situation.  Robert does not believe it is wise to recommend a change in professional unless it clearly makes sense.  However, we have heard many business owners say that they are being well served before we finish a 30 minute meeting during which we discover that basic tax planning alone could have saved thousands of dollars per year for the last five years.

Robert often says that if you are in business, then you need an accountant.  While we recognize that you may feel like you are too small or too new or you are tempted to save money and do-it-yourself, most people realize that working with a professional is the first step in planning well for their business.  We believe that "Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail" and who better than your accounting professional to help with this CRITICAL task.  We cannot over-emphasize the importance of planning well and working with the right people.

After our initial meeting, we will complete an initial setup checklist to help you compile the information needed to begin our relationship.  If entity registrations for ID numbers are needed, we will discuss the appropriate forms.  Once we finish preparing your first set of financial statements, we will have a meeting to discuss the performance of your business.  Normally, we will also discuss some planning concepts at this time too.

This is a great question.  The great majority of businesses prefer or require monthly service.  The choice of frequency is impacted by the volume of transactions, complexity, tax requirements, financial requirements, partner / shareholder agreements, cost, and personal preference.  We almost always recommend monthly service because it allows ShurPointe to be more involved in your business; thus, greatly increasing the chances of helping you.  Robert often uses the expression "Out of site, out of mind" when discussing the fequency of accounting services - it is important for your accountant to be involved in your business.

Since we focus on small businesses, we try to adhere to a fixed fee policy to help business owners budget.  Every business is different which causes fees to vary.  We do have minimum fees for certain services which we normally discuss during the initial or second consultation; however, most clients exceed our minumum fees.  Generally, it is best for us to meet to determine if we are a good fit for you and your company, to qualify the services you need and don't need, to discuss the services you want and don't want, and the appropriate fees based upon our quality discussion.
